Yoga sometimes interweaves with other philosophies such as Buddhism and Hinduism. But the real focus differs: in the Eastern religions emphasis is on rituals, prayer and belief of God. In Yoga you work towards a positive way of living and a healthy body and mind. It is not necessary to surrender your own religious beliefs to practice Yoga.   Yoga brings Balance Yoga means bringing balance to your mind and body. The word Yoga means ‘uniting’ but uniting goes further. In this hectic world we live in we don’t take enough time to rest. Our thoughts keep on going, we don’t always sleep well or enough and too much stress makes our muscles stiff. Yoga helps you to reflect. It begins with a whole hour for you, when practiced regularly something happens.   The benefits of Yoga Yoga makes you aware of your inner perception, gives you rich knowledge of yourself at different levels. You will learn to relax again and therefore sleep better, have less stiff muscles and experience peaceful deep breathing,   With Yoga fit, stronger, agile and more relaxed. Taj Ji Qi Gong

Unique in the area for The Hague, Voorburg, Leidschendam, Leidschenveen and Rijswijk: at Max Health Club Aan de Vliet Tai Ji Qi Gong can be found in our weekly class schedule.  Join a class to try. Why Tai Ji Qi Gong During this lesson centuries old Chinese movement arts and breathing exercises will be practiced. These exercises give more energy, offer relaxation, strengthen your resistance and promote blood circulation and digestion. The lesson always starts with a warming up of the body. First of all attention will be given to loosening up and keeping supple of your joints and muscles. We work on exercises to promote coordination, energy, breathing and some Tai Ji exercises.  What isTai Ji Quan? (pronounce: tie chi kwan) The literal translation means: ultimate best fist (a fighting method). However this literal translation is not yet complete. Tai Ji means the ultimate and the other ultimate is best which refers to the philosophy of Ying and Yang. Tai Ji Quan means unarmed warfare based on the philosophy of Ying and Yang.   Tai Ji Quan (in short Tai Ji) exercises consist of the execution of a series of slow, flowing movements. The movements are mostly round so the body will move in a gentle manner. Relaxed movement during the execution of the exercises is of great importance. With a correct posture the muscle groups will be optimally used. Balance, concentration and coordination are the essential aspects that are trained during Tai Ji lessons. Health aspect is foremost of importance. There is no physical strength used – only inner strength, the idea and the intention of the movement.   Suited for 55+ It is a known fact that it is possible to practice Tai Ji for all people of even very elderly ages. For older people it is very important to keep the joints supple and keep moving those muscles. Younger people become more agile and stronger. The result of practicing this sport is that one feels better and moves with more ease resulting in more self-confidence!   Traditions (=styles) There are different traditions within Tai Ji for example the Chen, Yang, Wu and Sun traditions where the Yang tradition is mainly executed in a slow manner and the Chen tradition will have its explosive moments. These traditions are often divided into sub-traditions of teachers who add their own knowledge, skills and experience. The movements are executed in a strict order. The Tai Ji practitioners speak of ‘forms’ (taolu). Every tradition has its own forms that are transferred from teacher to pupil. Time to complete a form will vary from 5 to 25 minutes. The slow movements that come from the abdomen are executed in a very relaxed manner typical for Tai Ji. Especially in the Chen tradition there is more emphasis on the self-defense aspect compared to e.g. the Yang tradition.   Qi Gong  (pronounce Chi Coong) or: ‘energy exercise’. A regular part of the lessons is Qi Gong. Just as in Tai Ji – the movements are executed slowly. Specifically pay attention to breathing. Goal of Qi Gong is to unblock the energy flow so the energy (qi) can flow again. One could experience this with a warm sense of feeling or tingling in the arms, legs, hands or feet.    Practicing Qi Gong is a great way to reduce stress and stress symptoms (hyperventilation, lack of sleep etc).   Time:               60 minutes Intensity:         Low Burn:               To 300 cal
